Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
I read this Steve Jobs quote and thought it was the perfect explanation for why I make seemingly insane choices – going to Berkeley, joining a sorority, studying abroad, moving to Chicago without a job, joining the Peace Corps, and allowing myself to fall in love with a Ukrainian man come to mind. I can’t explain how, but I knew that each of those decisions, which could easily be seen as questionably intelligent, was an important step in figuring out what my life will be. At least I will always be able to say it is my own.Disclaimer
